About the Site
Brief Description & Goal
Animara.org is a growing fanfiction and free graphics site which contains various materials and downloads for the interested reader, website owner, and general anime/manga/game fan. The site, in its various forms, has been serving the fanfiction and graphics communities for almost 4 years with well-written stories and increasingly professional designs.
The graphics section hosts both game and animanga creations available for free to all visitors. The fanfiction section contains all ratings varieties across a number of genres and animanga series.
The goal of Animara is to provide creations which comprise the best of my abilities as a writer and graphics designer, and to give help back to the communities from which I have grown to know my talents.
History
In late 2004, at about the time the ratings of my fanfiction, or fan-created stories, began to exceed those of
Fanfiction.net, I began to search for other options on which to store those stories. For a while I tinkered with the idea of joining AdultFanfiction.net, but the unstable site and reviewers were not promising. Then, after surfing other authors' profiles, I stumbled across
Tripod. With the offer of a free website (I was unaware of Geocities and Freewebs), a site called Insane Mind spawned from my imagination.
The first site was less than memorable, with a repeating background which now spoils my day every time I see it sitting on my computer. After a few months I was introduced to 50megs.com by a friend, a hosting site which offered more freedom with coding, and I quickly switched over.
There I bought my first domain, eternal-sorrow.net, along with my first hosting plan, and began experimenting with HTML and CSS. I decided to move to another, much cheaper, service at Pixelled Solutions, which through numerous name and ownership shifts found me in with Host Solutions. The site design itself has gone through countless changes and I honestly am not sure what number of layout it is currently on.
Upon arriving at Pixelled Solutions, I finally decided in earnest to learn graphic design. With a few links of tutorials, a quick ability to learn coding, and some less than helpful abilities to design, I began to design layouts. A graphics section and several other pages were added to the fanfiction focus, which grew according to my interests.
The time came to move when, for a month, my host's servers became overloaded with too many hosted accounts and the site was unviewable. I then learnt they were merely a front company and control of the server was not even within their hands. Thus the move to HostGator occurred, a host which has provided me with more space than I could ever use at a reasonable price.
After the move, the time came to decide whether the site name Insane Mind reflected the content. After much delibration, the name was changed to Animara to reflect both the boughten domain and the growing professional style of the site as a whole.
Overall, the content has grown, the hit count has gone up, and my goal is still to fill the site with the best of my creations.
Fanfiction
Fanfiction is a story created by fans of a specific series/book/etc. using the characters within the fandom. Often times arguments erupt over the representation of the characters, as the issue of what is canon and what is not tends to be a hot subject. The site hosts a large variety of stories ranging in ratings, genres, eras, and the occasional Original Character (OC). The tales and their information are marked accordingly and any content deemed inappropriate by visitors are viewed at their own risk.
Graphics
Currently the site hosts several avatar, signature, wallpaper, tutorial, and layout creations born from an infatuation of coding sites. I have little experience nor learning in graphic design, but through various efforts have slowly succeeded establishing improved abilities and techniques in simple but comprehensive graphics.
Viewing Issues
The current layout, version 16, is non-browser and -resolution specific, giving all computers and visitors the same view of the site. The assistance of the
W3C HTML Validation Service and the
W3C CSS Validation Service, and with the use of multiple browsers ranging from Opera to IE7, have helped with the customization. However, for best viewing the use of Mozilla
¹ ² with a 1024x768 resolution is highly suggested. Also, for those who do not have javascript enabled, or the script ability at all, the selection boxes scattered about the site will not work.
